Paul Huang

First Prize Winner of the prestigious 2011 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and the 2009 International Violin Competition Sion-Valais (presently the Tibor Varga Competition Sion-Valais), Taiwanese-American violinist Paul Huang is already recognized for his eloquent music making, effortless virtuosity, and compelling stage presence. This season brings Mr. Huang’s New York recital debut at the Kaufman Center’s Merkin Hall as well as his Washington, D.C. debut at the Kennedy Center as part of the Washington Performing Arts Society "Virtuoso Series". In addition, he will appear at the University of Florida Performing Arts, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society, University of Alabama, as well as the Hilton Head Symphony and the Louisville Symphony Orchestra. Internationally, he will appear at the Great Mountains Music Festival in Korea, Usedom Music Festival in Germany, Bilbao Symphony in Spain, and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. Recognition from the classical music world's most distinguished artists and critics has been significant in Mr. Huang's young career. Violinist Elmar Oliveira said, “Paul Huang is one of the most outstanding young violin talents playing before the public today. He has an impeccable technical command on the instrument and his musical instinct, personality, and intellectual capacity is beyond reproach.” The Washington Post proclaimed, "Huang is definitely an artist with the goods for a significant career." The New York Times praised for his "subtlety, his sense of how to shape line dramatically but without exaggeration." Mr. Huang has appeared as soloist with the Taipei Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), Budapest Dohnányi Symphony, and recitals at the Stradivari Museum in Italy, National Concert Hall in Taiwan, and at Museé du Louvre in France. Along with his orchestral and recital engagements, Mr. Huang has appeared on WQXR McGraw-Hill Young Artists Showcase and his performances and interviews have been heard on Radio France, RAI, BBC, and KBS Radios. Equally in demand as a chamber musician, Mr. Huang has been a feature artist at music festivals including the Great Mountains Music Festival in Korea, Mineria Music Festival in Mexico City, Moritzburg Festival in Germany, and the Sion Music Festival in Switzerland where he collaborated alongside such notable instrumentalists as Shlomo Mintz, Gil Shaham, Nobuko Imai, Roberto Diaz, Jan Vogler, and Frans Helmerson. He has also appeared as a guest artist with the Formosa Quartet at Wigmore Hall in London. Born in Taiwan, Mr. Huang received his first violin lesson at the age of seven. Since entering the Juilliard Pre-College at 14, he has continued studies at the school with Hyo Kang and I-Hao Lee. A recipient of the Chi-Mei Culture Foundation Arts Award, Helen Armstrong Violin Fellowship from the YCA, and the Juilliard Achievement Award, Mr. Huang plays a 1683 Nicolo Amati violin, on generous loan.
