Formed in 1966 as Merle Haggard's backing band, The Strangers served as his touring and recording group for decades. Members of the Strangers co-wrote and produced on many of Haggard's records, backed him on multiple No.1 singles, and were voted Academy of Country Music Band of the Year eight times between 1969 and 1987.
