An evening not to be missed - Thursday, October 1 at 6:30pm
You’re invited to a special evening celebrating the humanities in New Hampshire and exploring democracy in the age of AI with Jenn White, host of NPR’s nationally syndicated program 1A, and special guests.
Jenn White and 1A invite us to look at both what divides and connects us, taking us beyond the headlines and into the heart of the story to better understand the complicated issues of our time, like artificial intelligence (AI) and democracy, together.
- Doors open at 5:30 pm and the lobby and lounge will be open (theatre opens at 6:00 pm). You can purchase concessions and visit New Hampshire Humanities program exhibits such as Live Free or Dial presented by the New Hampshire Telephone Museum. The featured program begins at 6:30 pm .
- Join us after the show for a dessert reception in the lounge! Connect with fellow attendees to talk about democracy in the age of AI, enjoy dessert, meet the special guest panelists, and Gibson’s Bookstore will have books for sale in the lobby.
THE VIP EXPERIENCE - HUMANITIES CHAMPIONS RECEPTION
Select a VIP ticket to join the party before the show! This extra special reception just for Humanities Champions begins at 5:00 pm in the gallery at the League of NH Craftsmen Headquarters (across the street from BNH Stage and next door to the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce). Enjoy refreshments, live demonstrations by NH Craftsmen, and meet Jenn White! (Following the party, head across the street to BNH Stage for the program at 6:30 pm and the post-show dessert reception.) Get your VIP ticket before they sell out, limited seats available.
Special guests joining the conversation exploring democracy in the age of AI:
Lawrence Lessig, Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, is widely recognized for his scholarship on Internet, intellectual property, and the development of the Creative Commons. Lessig has also written extensively on the ways in which social media and AI-driven systems can contribute to large-scale political polarization. He is the author of many books on money in politics and how digital platforms are eroding trust and accountability.
Roopika Risam, Chair of Film & Media Studies at Dartmouth College, will discuss her new book, Data Empire: The Power of Information to Organize, Control, and Dominate. It provides a sweeping look at humans and information from pre-history to Elon Musk/DOGE in 2025, and how technology has been changing the balance between governments and corporations.
